The overall main skills an athletic trainer must have to be successful in the field are communicating and working with others, problem solving, and decision making. Whether it be the athlete themselves, other teammates, coaches, or other trainers, an athletic trainer must be able to cooperate with them in order to achieve what needs to be done. Having the ability to communicate is also essential especially because many of the situations an athletic trainer is involved in can deal with serious situations. So if a trainer is the only certified one in this situation, they may need to give direction to other less experienced individuals for extra help.
In many cases, the solution to someones injury isn't always an exact answer. An athletic trainer must be able to find different possible actions to take until they find an answer. This can include weighing the pros and cons of alternate solutions or approaches to problems.
