Tasks
You can find them at just about every type of sporting event from a high school level and beyond. Athletic trainers perform various tasks dealing with sports-related injuries ranging from a bruise or scrape to a concussion or broken bone. When a player is injured during a game or practice, a trainer will have to quickly diagnose the problem, then either treat it themselves, or prepare the athlete for further care such as a hospital.
Not only do athletic trainers care for athletes at the time of the incident, but they must also make sure athletes that are having persistent problems are treated before each time they are involved in some type of physical activity. This preparation could include stretching and/or heating a certain muscle or wrapping a sprained or strained body part to prevent any type of further injury to the player.
Conditions
Athletic trainers typically work on a high school or college campus in order to be able to treat an injury whenever it is necessary. But high schools and colleges aren't the only places where an athletic trainer is necessary. Every professional level sports team requires a trainer or multiple trainers on hand in order to care for any injured athletes. An athletic trainer for a professional team would need to travel with that team to any event they may go to in order to provide the quickest treatment possible.
